In 2022, the Finnish National Gallery launched the Digital National Gallery program, recognizing the untouched possibilities of digital technologies within the museum sector. To proactively address this shift, the program seeks to understand the evolving digital landscape and its implications for museums like ours. As part of this ongoing exploration, we sent a documentary crew to New York City to investigate the possible future of museums. Over ten days, they engaged with eleven diverse voices from the art and technology worlds, culminating in four episodes that delve into the intersection of art, technology, and community.
One interviewee summarized the project’s goal quite perfectly, "You made me think of museums in a way I've never thought about museums before."
Our hope is that these documentaries will spark a lively discussion and inspire new perspectives on the role of museums in the digital age.
